Ace
Ace is a 5 year old mixed breed dog owned by one of my employees. She took many pictures of Ace to give me an abundance of poses from which to choose, and in nearly all of his pictures, his mouth was open and tongue out as though in the most exuberant of smiles. I had to reproduce him in this pose.

Danielle - "Graceful Shadow"
Dani is my own cat, a white and black female cat who is approximately 13 years old. I met her when she was a stray, young and pregnant, and hanging around the clinic where I practiced. After finding homes for her babies, I kept her. I sketched her here in one of her favorite places, a tall wicker stool on our lanai, next to a multitude of outdoor plants. I entitled this “Graceful Shadow” because of Dani’s habit of finding hiding places when people enter the room – leaving behind an impression of a graceful black and white streak, or nothing at all but a shadow.

Elephant
This sketch was made from the cover of a CD by Jami Seber entitled “Hidden Spring”. This CD provided favorite meditational music used in some of my classes at Ringling. The CD is a collection of cello music by Ms Seber inspired from a trip to Thailand and time spent with the elephants. In fact, some of the selections are played by the elephants in the Thailand Elephant Orchestra.

Goldene
I met Goldene, a female yellow Labrador Retriever, when she was 14 years old and had many physical ailments. She was a very sweet patient who was loved dearly by her “parents”. Here is a sketch of her picture when she was a young 2 year old, caught in a pose on the sofa.

Imagine
When I first visualized this picture in my imagination, it looked much the same as the finished artwork. I felt very connected at the time with African themes, wild animals and the concept of imagining a better world. The solar eclipse behind the young boy was my way of evoking the sense of peace and power that accompany this single concept of creating a new world.

Jack
Jack was a 10 year old smooth- coated fox terrier whom I treated for severe back and knee problems. When I first met him, he could not bend or flex because of the severity of his condition. He responded very well to treatment. His human companion called him an “old soul” because of his insightful, gracious and understanding personality.

Lena
Lena was a geriatric German Shepherd female who was rescued years ago, starving and in poor health, along with her puppies, by one of my employees (Ace’s mom). She gave Lena a wonderful second chance on life. She also got to be “big sister” to Ace, the smiling boy.

Max "So Many Friends"
Max was a super affectionate 8 year old Boxer whose mom sought holistic care for his enlarged lymph nodes. His mom had recovered from lymphoma through the use of alternative medicine. Unfortunately, Max’s course of illness required that he pass from this plane, which he did within an intimate healing circle of friends. Since he was so friendly and loved by all, I entitled this piece, “So Many Friends”.

Mini
Mini is an 8 year old Yorkie who came to me with a history of digestive problems and many hospital stays. She did very well with treatment and dietary change. Mini loves the children in her extended family and is bright and inquisitive, as her picture implies. She is indeed “mini”, with her top weight of 4lbs!!

Scruffy "The Princess"
Scruffy was a 12 year old female cat who was acquired by her owner from a cat adoption agency. She lived a full and vibrant life in a serene spiritual setting, helping her mom with her work in channeling with people and animals, and watching out the windows! Her mom says she always knew she was royalty.

Zeke and Zeus
This is a restful pose of the two Golden Retrievers, Zeke and Zeus, who have been patients of mine. I met Zeus when he was in his final years, such a gorgeous white-blond male with a grounded, gracious personality. Zeke, the puppy here, is now a vibrant robust 3 year old. It would be difficult to catch him in this pose now!!
